Which applications are supported in BLACKbox AAA?

Any client-server based application can be virtualized by BLACKbox AAA. Examples of such applications are Tally, SAP, and Customized ERP.

The application and database will be hosted on the application server, and the client software will be installed on the hardware provided to install the server of the BLACKbox AAA solution.

Is VPN required for BLACKbox AAA?

To access applications remotely through BLACKbox AAA, VPN connectivity is recommended for security purposes. BLACKbox AAA can also virtualize applications over static IP without a VPN. Hence VPN is not mandatory. However, this would be an unwanted security compromise.

Will desktop applications like AutoCAD, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Design Soft work with BLACKbox AAA?

Mostly, desktop applications are not allowed to be virtualized since this would mean that multiple users would be sharing a single license. Before attempting to virtualize such applications on BLACKbox AAA, one must check if the licensing policy of the software provider is not violated.

How can Tally/ERP or other client-server based applications be accessed through BLACKbox AAA?

BLACKbox AAA can virtualize Tally / ERP or other client-server based applications on remote users’ computers through the BLACKbox AAA client or any internet browser in the system.

How is BLACKbox AAA different from VMware?

VMware virtualizes multiple desktops/servers on a single hardware. Through VMware, one can use virtual desktops/servers remotely.

BLACKbox AAA is an application virtualization solution. Through BLACKbox AAA, users can use client software of any client-server application remotely.

Can we host Tally in BLACKbox and use it globally?

Yes, Tally can be hosted on BLACKbox, but it can be used only locally. Access to Tally is not allowed over VPN as per the application’s policy.

In order to achieve the objective of using the Tally server globally, virtualization of the tally application is needed. BLACKbox AAA can be used to achieve this objective.

Is BLACKbox AAA an upgradation of BLACKbox Prime T?

No. BLACKbox AAA is a totally different product from Prime or Turbo T.

BLACKbox Prime/Turbo T is for data loss, leakage and theft prevention. It also acts as a VPN server. It can give access to the files stored on BLACKbox to the remote users over VPN.

BLACKbox AAA is an application virtualization software. It helps in extending access of client-server based applications to remote or WFH users over a very lower bandwidth.”

How can an application be accessed remotely?

For accessing any application remotely, there are three options:
1. The remote user connects to the VPN, enters the LAN and opens the client application installed on the remote computer. This will be very slow if internet bandwidth is not adequate.
2. Set up a terminal server and give access to remote users through a remote desktop.This will work very well on lower bandwidth. But since this requires server hardware, server OS16, RDP17 CALS and CALS18, it becomes very expensive.
3. BLACKbox AAA software solution, which can be installed on windows 10 computer and give remote access to the application by application virtualization.

Does BLACKbox support the SAP database?

BLACKbox is not an application or a database server. It is a file server. Hence, the SAP database cannot be loaded on BLACKbox.

But, the SAP client can be accessed from any desktop on LAN, which is hardened by the BLACKbox agent. In the case of remote access requirements, BLACKbox AAA can be evaluated.

Can a single user license application be used for multiple users via BLACKbox AAA?

No. Access will depend on the licensing policy of the particular application. The objective of AAA is not to save licensing costs illegally.

Is there a minimum bandwidth requirement for using BLACKbox AAA?

The bandwidth required will depend on the number of users and the type of applications that are being accessed through BLACKbox AAA.

Which OS is required for hosting BLACKbox AAA?

BLACKbox AAA is installed on a Windows 10 professional system which is provided by the customer. The client software for the application to be virtualized is installed on the same system.

Which costs does BLACKbox AAA save?

BLACKbox AAA is an application virtualization solution to provide remote access to client-server applications. It does not require a Windows server license or RDP CALs or CALs. It runs on windows 10 professional. This is how it saves substantial licensing costs.

Can BLACKbox AAA service be accessed from a mobile phone or a tablet?

Yes, remote access from popular browsers can facilitate access to BLACKbox AAA from a mobile phone or tablet.

How frequently can the password of the BLACKbox AAA client be changed?

The password of the BLACKbox AAA client can be changed manually as many times as required by the user.

How many types of BLACKbox AAA plans are available?

There is only one type of BLACKbox AAA.

What is the minimum user requirement for BLACKbox AAA?

BLACKbox AAA can be purchased in packs of 3 users.

In addition to application access, can we provide folder access through BLACKbox AAA?

Access to folders through BLACKbox AAA can be given from the BLACKbox file server only if BLACKbox hardware is procured.

However, with folder access, files are opened in desktop applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. In order to allow the use of desktop applications over BLACKbox AAA, the customer needs to comply with the licensing policy of the respective desktop application.

Also, if BLACKbox AAA is to be used to access desktop applications (not client-server applications), the sizing of the windows 10 professional computer required to host BLACKbox AAA will be different, and the sizing of hardware configuration will be provided after analyzing which desktop applications are required to be accessed and by how many users.

What controls does the admin have in BLACKbox AAA management?
  1. Create users as per the procured license
  2. Control server-wide copy/paste, read/write, download/upload permissions for users.

Note: This permission shall be server-wide and not user-specific.

How is BLACKbox AAA significantly different from Amazon or other equivalent online virtual servers?

BLACKbox AAA is an application virtualization solution, unlike Amazon or other equivalent virtual servers available as virtual hardware. They do not virtualize applications. They virtualize the entire hardware.

If one wants to virtualize an application on a virtual server like amazon or equivalent, there is an additional cost of RDP CAL license and server license.

Can a user access BLACKbox AAA from multiple systems at a time?

No. One user (single user name) can access BLACKbox AAA from only one system at a time.

Does BLACKbox AAA support printing on the local printer?

Since BLACKbox AAA is an application virtualization software, the application used by the user actually opens on the machine where the BLACKbox AAA server has been installed. So, any print command which is given there goes to the printer connected to this machine’s LAN.

But, the user can use the default PDF printer to save that file on the local machine (if download rights are given by the admin) and then take a print of that file in the local printer.

Can applications installed on BLACKbox server PC be accessed through BLACKbox AAA?

Applications cannot be installed on BLACKbox server PC. The client software of these applications is installed on the computer system provided for the BLACKbox AAA server.

Can the server of BLACKbox AAA be installed on an existing application server?

It is possible but not advisable from the security point of view. A separate system for BLACKbox AAA in LAN with the application server will have better security.

How does BLACKbox AAA provide an advantage over cloud-based ERP or SAP solution, which is accessible for WFH/remote users?

BLACKbox AAA server can be hosted on the same cloud in LAN with the ERP server.This would eliminate the requirement of RDP CALs and thus save significant costs.

Would there be a need for port forwarding on the router and firewall in order to use BLACKbox AAA?

Yes, certain ports need to be forwarded on the router and firewall on the computer system hosting the BLACKbox AAA application. Static IP also needs to be configured on this router and firewall.

Can any file server or storage device such as NAS be shared by the VPN users through BLACKbox AAA?

Yes. BLACKbox AAA can be configured to provide access to NAS or any other storage device over VPN. However, to implement device hardening on the client computer, DHSS shall be required.

Can a temporary user such as a vendor/customer/consultant be given read-only access to a particular file/folder from BLACKbox?

We can provide data access to a temporary user over BLACKbox AAA, but for security concerns, it is preferred to use BLACKbox AAA with VPN as it is secured.

Is there a need for the local users to buy a AAA license to access Tally, which is hosted on BLACKbox?

No. There is no need to buy a AAA license for the LAN users using Tally hosted on BLACKbox.

What are the licensing and AMC terms of BLACKbox AAA? Is it a Capex or Opex?

BLACKbox AAA is a one-time license cost with yearly AMC.
