BLACKbox resolved four complex challenges of the client company related to data sharing, data security, data backup, and the client’s IT infrastructure transformation.
About Client:
The client is a leading Indian design and manufacturing company with clients worldwide and is a BLACKbox customer. The client is more in design than manufacturing, with advanced design units catering to the Oil, Aerospace, Gas, Defense, IoT, Pharma, and Chemical industries. The client employs world-class talent, and these professionals create intelligent design assets.
Executive Summary:
The client is a leading Mumbai industrialist designing and manufacturing precision components for the Aerospace Industry. Serious R&D teams, Skilled Engineers, Newest Design Software, and Patents differentiate them from others. They have rediscovered OPEX over CAPEX and adapted their systems to current times without compromising Data Security.
In tough times, the client company had to secure their data, and they even had to ensure the complete safety of their team during the COVID-19 pandemic. In normal circumstances, they used to keep all their design data on the premises. The team worked on the data safely right from the company’s premises. However, the situation changed. During the lockdown, they were forced to allow their team to work from where they were. Not only that, but they also wanted to be entirely prepared for such a situation at any time in the future.
The company faced four complex challenges: data sharing, data security, data backup, and IT infrastructure transformation. They successfully overcame these challenges and continued their business without compromising data security, with BLACKbox technology and the team’s assistance in difficult times.
The BLACKbox team solved the client’s existing data security-related problems and technical challenges. The team empowered the client by using BLACKbox on the data center through a secured VPN. They then helped the client with the endpoint element of BLACKbox on data center technology, facilitating information security for users. Further, the BLACKbox team solved the problems related to data backup by introducing its DCDR technology to the client. Finally, the BLACKbox team transformed the client’s IT infrastructure entirely to OPEX from CAPEX with the most advanced collaborative, security, and disaster response systems at affordable pricing.
Challenges Faced by the Client Company:
The client used to keep and preserve all their design data on the company premises, and the team worked on the data right on the premises. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown changed the scenario, leading to a work-from-home situation. Further, the client had almost 16 TB of data on their current file servers. The client faced four complex challenges, leading to chaotic circumstances.
Challenge 1: The first challenge was how their design engineers could work, share the data and collaborate remotely.
Challenge 2: The second challenge was that the client’s engineers could easily copy data and share it with the company’s competitors as they were working remotely. That would expose the client company to huge liabilities arising from the Non-Disclosure Agreements the company had signed with its customers.
Challenge 3: The third challenge was that while working from home, the users copied data on their workstations and further worked on it. Through policy restrictions, data is safe from leakage or theft. However, they spend hours on their data. So, how the precise backup of data will happen smoothly was an issue.
Challenge 4: The fourth challenge was new infrastructure costs when buying BLACKbox and hosting it in the Data Center. This was a massive CAPEX for the client company as huge money was already invested in the present systems.
How BLACKbox and its Product Team Assisted the Client:
- The client evaluated moving to the cloud for the first challenge of working remotely and sharing the data. However, the recurring cost of AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud for 16 TB plus storage and 50 users was prohibitive. Here, the BLACKbox team identified the challenge and confidently advised the client to use BLACKbox on the data center through a secured VPN.
- For the second challenge of copying the client company data or sharing it with the competitors, the BLACKbox team introduced the endpoint element of BLACKbox on data center technology. The team thoroughly explained the endpoint level of Information Security for those users. USB ports were blocked or allowed merely for inward data transfer. Further, the enterprise email system was accessible to the users with tight vigilance. The device restricted the Internet on workstations to partially useful websites.
- The BLACKbox team introduced the client to DCDR technology for the third challenge of consistent data backup. This technology takes silent backups of the data on workstations over the Internet without enabling or allowing user intervention.
- Coming to the fourth and final challenge of investment in BLACKbox, the team offered something irresistible. They offered that Synersoft would invest in BLACKbox on its behalf, lease it to the client, and host it on the data center with an antivirus and G-Suite subscription at a monthly lease rental of approximately INR 35000. That included everything from VPN, 16 TB storage, data center rental, antivirus, G-Suite, and cloud backup for precise disaster response.
Solution Outcomes:
With BLACKbox, the client transformed its IT infrastructure completely to OPEX from CAPEX with the most advanced collaborative, security, and disaster response systems. The use of technology works out to be less than 2% of the client company’s monthly payroll. Simply put, it was just an increase of INR 700 to the salary of every employee. The client acknowledged that having BLACKbox is an intelligent decision for their company.
